Who do you love?

Dancing in the kitchen to Sophie’s favorite rap song, Mason knows what makes his youngest cousin happy. She beams up at him as they start their day dancing together. He knows her love language.

I read Gary Chapman’s The Five Love Languages years ago when I was was struggling to connect with my extremely physical husband. I am a porcupine next to energetic Todd the Tigger. The book helped change my perspective on how we each demonstrate love and later I turned to the children’s version for help connecting with my sons. We still struggle to express our feelings and needs, but it’s a work in progress and these books have been a great resource.

During our big extended vacation with family, I brought the book up and we all joked about what makes us feel loved. I would like to write to Gary and ask him to create a Five Love Languages for Your Relatives. What if before spending time with your cousins, parents, etc, you knew how to fill their cup? Think of the arguments you could save if you knew who needed “words of affirmation” during your visit. Or if it would help if you carved out alone time during your stay? My nieces created a beach pedicure station during our 4th of July trip and Todd would be sure to pop in. Not only does he love the physical attention, but he knows how important it is to them. He speaks their love language.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all share a postcard version of our love languages to our families so they knew how to express their love? Because if you fill my cup, I will raise my glass and be a much better person to be around. If you haven’t read the The Five Love Languages book, August might be the time. xoxo

If you follow me on social media you know that I love to read a lot in the summer. I have posted a lot of books and created the top ones in a list below. Most of my time this summer has been with my family at the beach, and I have come across a few great items that I would like to pass along. My love language is “quality time,” so get in touch if you would like to discuss and please let me know if you LOVE any of them?

Up your tailgate game

I have loved having this H2O cooler in our car this summer and it is forcing my fam to bring water bottles or cups to the beach. My friend Elizabeth is a hostess master and her beach tailgate gave me lots of ideas!

I lOVE to save money on all of these purchases, so thank you Tara for telling me about Honey!

Thanks to Kelly, I now smell good apres-beach. I grabbed mine at White Marley on the Cape, but grab yours online!
