Just Wing It

Last week my dear college friend Bryson came for a quick visit. We were able to squeeze in a morning run together, and were able to catch up on children, marriages, work and general highs and lows of this time in our lives. Our friendship began running and I am grateful that twenty five plus years later, we can still hit the road together.

As we shuffled along, we talked about trying to let more things go and not control as much. Maybe it is due to the fact that we have teenagers who are harder to control or because we both have been married for over twenty years, but we have gained a better understanding of what helps the keep the circus running smoothly. For me, letting go of what I think I should be doing as a wife and a mother, and rolling with it, seems to be making my family a little calmer. Instead of rushing to the grocery store after work to grab ingredients to make a big meal, I either meal prep earlier in the week, or we all come up with a solution in the kitchen together (ie rock, paper, scissors to who picks up take-out). My sons do not make their beds or put away the piles of laundry until I beg them to on the weekend. Dishes stay in the sink because I choose to fit in exercise over dishwashing. Todd doesn’t put away his laundry which used to frustrate me since I need to use the laundry basket frequently. So now he has his own laundry bag that can live next to his dresser and not bother me at all!

Listen

If you haven’t read Educated by Tara Westover, add it to your list. This podcast is great for AFTER you have read the book. It was so interesting to listen to Tara explain on Oprah’s SuperSoul Sunday podcast the relationships she now has now with her family. As Tara said '“keep your life still enough so you can be aware of who you truly are, and do not get so busy chasing so many other things.”

Watch

Both women rock their rolls in this suspenseful drama. Binge it on Netflix and you will not be disappointed.

Thanks to Tiffany, I have one of these inserts which makes it easier to swap bags. I gave one to Jill for her baby shower since I remember the frustration of not having gloss in my diaper bag or wipes in my purse!
